The Grackle (often called a figure-8 ) noseband offers the following features 1.    The upper loop of the 8, closest to the ears, prevents the horse from opening his mouth and crossing his jaws. 2.      The lower loop of the 8, closest to the bit, loops down from the nose and is stitched on to the bit with elastic. This holds the bit up against the roof           of the horse’s mouth. Comfortably prevents the horse from running away and throwing his head. It also comfortably helps prevent him putting his tongue over the bit, which inhibits breathing. If fitted correctly it is supposed to leave the nostrils clear so they can breathe easier. Fleece padding on the nose for added comfort. The rein ends loop onto the bit as per racing regulations.
