Product description

Kimblewick Slotted Jointed Bit

A versatile kimblewick with slotted cheeks allowing three rein positions. Combines the action of a snaffle and a pelham in a single bit — giving the rider adjustable leverage without needing a double bridle. Curb chain included.

How It Works

The slots in the cheeks allow the rein to be placed at different heights, changing how much leverage the bit applies. With the rein in the upper slot, the action is closer to a snaffle — milder, more direct. In the lower slot, more curb pressure is applied to the bars, chin, and poll. This makes the kimblewick an excellent choice for horses that need more than a snaffle but where a pelham with double reins isn't practical or desirable.

The curb chain limits how far the bit can rotate in the horse's mouth and activates poll pressure when the reins are used. The jointed mouthpiece applies nutcracker action for additional control and communication.

Key Features

  • Slotted cheeks — 3 rein positions for adjustable severity
  • Combines snaffle and pelham action in one bit
  • Applies pressure to bars, chin groove, and poll
  • Jointed mouthpiece for nutcracker action
  • Curb chain included for leverage control
  • Works well for horses that pull hard

Jointed vs Low Port

The jointed version gives a more active feel in the mouth than a solid low-port mouthpiece. Horses that respond well to a single-jointed snaffle often take well to a jointed kimblewick when stepped up. Horses that dislike tongue pressure or prefer a quieter mouthpiece may do better in the low-port version.

Suitable For

Strong, forward-going horses that need more control than a standard snaffle provides — but without the complexity of a full pelham setup. Popular in show jumping, eventing, and general riding for horses that pull into the contact.
