Product description
Festool HW S8 D31,7/R9,5 KL Roundover Router Cutter
At a Glance: Create rounded timber edges with a 9.5 mm radius. This carbide-tipped cutter combines a 31.7 mm cutting diameter, 8 mm shank and ball bearing guide for controlled edge profiling.
The Festool HW S8 D31,7/R9,5 KL rounds and profiles the edges of solid wood and panel materials. Two carbide cutting edges provide durability, while the guide bearing follows the workpiece edge. Different compatible bearing diameters allow the cutter to produce a plain roundover or a decorative stepped profile.
A roundover cutter replaces a square edge with a curved profile. The radius describes the size of that curve. A bearing-guided cutter follows an existing edge, so the quality of the guiding surface affects the finished result.
Product highlights
- Rounded edge profile: Softens square edges for a comfortable feel.
- Carbide cutting edges: Designed for sustained cutting performance.
- Bearing guidance: Follows straight or curved workpiece edges.
- Replaceable bearing: Secured by a screw for convenient replacement.
Compatibility
Festool lists this cutter for the following routers:
- OF 900, OF 1000, OF 1010 and OF 1010 R
- OF 1400, OF 2000 and OF 2200
- MFK 700 and MFKC 700
Use the correct 8 mm collet and confirm that the router setup provides sufficient clearance for the cutter and bearing.

Extra Info
How the guide bearing changes the profile
A 12.7 mm diameter bearing is used for rounding edges. A 9.5 mm diameter bearing allows a decorative stepped edge profile. Bearing diameter changes how far the cutting edges reach into the workpiece; the cutter radius remains unchanged.
The alternative bearing sizes describe possible configurations. Do not assume both sizes are included.
Understanding the dimensions
D identifies cutting diameter, R profile radius, NL cutting length, GL overall length and S8 the 8 mm shank. Cutting length and profile radius are different measurements.
Pro Tip
Test the depth setting on an offcut of the same material. Small height adjustments can change the transition between the rounded edge and the flat surface. Keep the bearing's guiding edge free of glue, chips and damage.
How to use
- Disconnect the router from its power source before fitting or adjusting the cutter.
- Inspect the cutter and bearing, then secure the shank in the correct collet according to the router instructions.
- Set the cutting depth and check that the cutter rotates freely without contacting the base or accessories.
- Secure the workpiece and make a trial cut to check the profile.
- Follow the router instructions for speed and feed direction. Maintain steady guidance and use progressively deeper passes where appropriate.
- Allow the cutter to stop completely before putting the router down.
Safety
Safety
- Wear eye and hearing protection and use suitable dust extraction.
- Keep hands clear of the cutting area and secure the workpiece.
- Do not use a damaged cutter or a bearing that does not turn freely.
- Observe the speed limits marked on the cutter and follow the router manufacturer's instructions.
- Disconnect power before changing the cutter, bearing or depth setting.
