Festool PS STF D150x30 WH/5 Fine White Polishing Sponges

At a Glance: Fine-grade 150 mm white PoliStick polishing sponges for removing swirl and hologram marks, refining painted surfaces and producing a deep high-gloss finish. Specially matched to Festool MPA 11010 fine polishing compound and supplied in a pack of 5.

The Festool PS STF D150x30 WH/5 is a professional fine-grade polishing sponge designed for the final refinement of high-quality painted and finished surfaces. The white foam is specifically intended for polishing out swirl or hologram marks and developing a deep, brilliant high-gloss finish after preceding correction stages have been completed. Festool recommends pairing the white sponge with MPA 11010 polishing compound for an optimally matched finishing system. With a diameter of 150 mm and a height of 30 mm, the sponge provides a generous polishing area together with enough foam depth to conform gently to the workpiece. The PoliStick hook-and-loop backing makes attachment and replacement quick and secure on a suitable 150 mm Festool polishing pad. Suitable applications include high-gloss paints, UV clear coats, mineral materials and acrylic glass. This professional pack contains five identical white fine polishing sponges.

White means fine finishing in the Festool polishing system

Festool colour-codes its polishing sponges so the correct level can be recognised immediately. The white sponge is the fine polishing grade, intended for removing the delicate marks remaining after earlier correction stages and creating a deep, high-gloss finish. It is therefore a finishing sponge rather than an aggressive defect-removal pad.

Extra Info

Extra Information

  • What does PS mean? PS identifies the Festool polishing sponge product family.
  • What does STF mean? STF refers to Festool's StickFix / PoliStick hook-and-loop fastening system for rapid accessory attachment.
  • What does D150 mean? D150 identifies the nominal sponge diameter of 150 mm.
  • What does x30 mean? The sponge has a nominal height of 30 mm.
  • What does WH mean? WH identifies the white Festool polishing sponge, which is the fine polishing grade.
  • What does /5 mean? The package contains five polishing sponges.
  • What is the white sponge used for? Festool specifies it for polishing out swirl marks and producing a deep shine, including high-gloss polishing.
  • Which polish is recommended? Festool specifically recommends the PS STF D150x30 WH sponge together with MPA 11010.
  • Is this a coarse correction pad? No. The white sponge is a fine finishing sponge. Heavy paint defects should be corrected with an appropriate preceding polishing stage before moving to the white pad.
  • Flat face or waffle face? FES202013 is the standard flat-face WH version. Festool also produces separately designated waffle-face polishing pads for applications where that pad construction is preferred.
Where the white sponge fits in the Festool polishing sequence

A polished surface is normally refined progressively. More noticeable defects are dealt with during the earlier correction stages using the appropriate compound and pad. The white fine sponge then takes over for the finishing stage, reducing the remaining micro-marring, swirl or hologram marks and developing the final high-gloss appearance. Starting with the correct preceding stage generally produces a better result than trying to make the fine white sponge remove defects that are too deep.

Why MPA 11010 and the white sponge work together

Polishing performance depends on both the compound and the pad. Festool specifically pairs the fine white sponge with MPA 11010 so the polishing action of the compound is supported by the appropriate foam firmness. This matched approach helps create a uniform finish while keeping the final polishing stage controlled and predictable.

Pro Tips

  • Use a clean white sponge for final polishing. Residue from a coarser compound can introduce fresh marks into an otherwise refined surface.
  • Do not mix different polishing compounds on the same sponge. Dedicate each pad to one compound or polishing stage.
  • Apply only the amount of MPA 11010 needed to lubricate and work the surface effectively; excessive polish can make the finishing process unnecessarily messy.
  • Spread fresh compound over the work area at a low machine speed before increasing to the appropriate polishing speed.
  • Keep the sponge as flat as practical against broad surfaces to distribute pressure evenly.
  • Avoid excessive pressure. Fine finishing is achieved through controlled polishing action rather than forcing the pad into the surface.
  • Do not remain in one position for too long, particularly on temperature-sensitive paint, acrylic glass or other plastics.
  • Work manageable sections so the polish does not dry excessively before it has been fully worked.
  • Inspect the surface under strong directional lighting to reveal remaining swirls or holograms that may not be visible under normal workshop lighting.
  • Frequently check the foam face for contamination. One hard particle trapped in the sponge can introduce new scratches.
  • Replace a sponge if the foam becomes damaged, permanently contaminated or no longer attaches securely to the PoliStick backing pad.
  • For critical high-gloss surfaces, test the complete pad, polish and speed combination on an inconspicuous area first.

How to Use

  • Make sure the surface is clean, cool and free from loose contamination before polishing.
  • Confirm that the major defects have already been corrected during the appropriate preceding polishing stage.
  • Fit a suitable 150 mm Festool PoliStick polishing backing pad to the compatible machine.
  • Centre the PS STF D150x30 WH sponge carefully on the hook-and-loop backing pad.
  • Press the sponge firmly onto the backing surface so it is attached evenly around the complete pad.
  • Apply a suitable small quantity of Festool MPA 11010 polishing compound to the sponge or workpiece according to the polishing instructions.
  • Place the pad against the surface before accelerating the machine to prevent compound from being thrown off.
  • Spread the polish over a manageable working area.
  • Polish using smooth, overlapping movements and moderate, even pressure.
  • Keep the sponge moving to minimise localised heat build-up.
  • Continue until the polish has been worked to the required stage.
  • Remove remaining polishing residue with a clean, suitable cloth.
  • Inspect the surface under good lighting for remaining holograms, swirls or inconsistent gloss.
  • Repeat the finishing process where required using a clean sponge and fresh compound.
  • After use, remove the sponge carefully from the PoliStick pad and store it clean and protected from contamination.

Safety

Safety

  • Follow the operating and safety instructions for the polishing machine and polishing compound being used.
  • Make sure the sponge is correctly centred and securely attached to the PoliStick backing pad before starting the machine.
  • Do not use a torn, badly worn or damaged polishing sponge.
  • Wear suitable eye protection, particularly where polishing compound could be thrown from the pad.
  • Use appropriate gloves and other personal protective equipment where required by the polishing-compound or coating manufacturer.
  • Work in a suitably ventilated area when polishing painted, coated or chemically treated surfaces.
  • Do not exceed the permissible machine speed or the recommendations for the polishing pad and surface.
  • Keep the moving pad away from loose clothing, hair and jewellery.
  • Keep the pad moving across the workpiece to minimise localised heat build-up.
  • Be particularly careful on edges and raised body lines where coatings may be thinner and easier to polish through.
  • Allow the machine to stop completely before placing it down or changing the sponge.
  • Disconnect the machine from its power source or remove the battery before changing polishing accessories where required by the machine instructions.
  • Check coating and material compatibility before polishing acrylic glass, mineral material or specialist finishes.
  • Follow the relevant Festool MPA polishing-compound instructions and the surface manufacturer's recommendations.
