Festool STF 115x228 P80 GR/50 Granat Abrasive Sheets 115x228mm P80 50-Pack

At a Glance: Professional Granat P80 abrasive sheets measuring 115 x 228 mm with Festool StickFix attachment, supplied in a 50-piece pack for RS 200, RS 2, RS 100, RS 100 C, RS 1, RS 1 C and HSK-A 115 x 226.

Move confidently from coarse material removal into more controlled surface preparation with the Festool STF 115x228 P80 GR/50 Granat abrasive sheets. Granat is Festool's versatile professional abrasive developed especially for challenging VOC varnishes, modern paint systems and hard substrates. Its special coating helps prevent premature clogging by sanding residue, allowing the abrasive grain to remain effective for longer and helping provide dependable cutting performance throughout the working life of the sheet. The P80 grit delivers a highly useful balance between effective material removal and controlled surface refinement, making it ideal for initial-to-intermediate sanding, levelling and reducing the deeper sanding pattern left by coarser grits. Granat is also suitable for repair compounds, fillers, plastics, acrylic and mineral materials, giving it excellent versatility across painting, varnishing, drywall and joinery applications. Each sheet measures 115 x 228 mm and features Festool's convenient StickFix hook-and-loop attachment for rapid, secure installation. Supplied in a practical pack of 50 abrasive sheets, FES498946 is designed for compatible Festool RS-series orbital sanders as well as the HSK-A 115 x 226 hand-sanding block.

Granat - the universal abrasive with special advantages

Festool Granat is engineered for demanding materials that can quickly clog conventional abrasive sheets. A special coating helps resist the accumulation of sanding residue around the abrasive grain, maintaining effective cutting performance and supporting a long useful service life. Particularly well suited to VOC varnishes and hard base layers, Granat also performs reliably across repair compounds, fillers, plastics, acrylic and mineral materials.

P80 - the useful bridge between coarse and intermediate sanding

P80 provides effective material removal while creating a finer scratch pattern than P40 or P60. It is an excellent choice after coarse sanding or as a starting grit where very aggressive stock removal is not required. For progressively smoother results, continue with P100, P120 or another suitable finer Granat grit.

What makes Granat different?

Modern varnishes, clear coats, paints and fillers can generate sanding residue that quickly accumulates around conventional abrasive grains. As the abrasive surface becomes clogged, effective cutting performance falls. Granat uses a special coating designed to help prevent this premature loading, allowing more of the abrasive surface to remain active and helping provide a long, productive working life.

What does P80 mean?

P80 identifies a relatively coarse abrasive grit that combines useful material-removal capability with a more controlled scratch pattern than P40 or P60. It is especially useful for initial-to-intermediate preparation where the surface still requires levelling but is beginning to move towards finer finishing stages.

When should P80 be used?

P80 can be used after P40 or P60 to reduce deeper sanding scratches, or as the starting grit where the surface does not require extremely aggressive stock removal. Once the necessary levelling has been completed, the sanding sequence can continue with P100, P120 or another appropriate finer Granat abrasive.

P60 to P80 to P100

A progressive sanding sequence helps refine the surface efficiently. P60 provides strong coarse preparation, P80 reduces the deeper sanding pattern while continuing to level the surface, and P100 begins the transition into more refined intermediate preparation. The exact sequence should always be matched to the substrate and final finish required.

Why use a progressive sanding sequence?

Every abrasive grit leaves its own characteristic scratch pattern. Moving gradually through suitable grit sizes allows each successive abrasive to remove the scratches produced by the preceding stage. This is considerably more efficient than expecting a very fine abrasive to remove deep marks left by a much coarser grit.

Festool StickFix

StickFix is Festool's hook-and-loop abrasive attachment system. The abrasive sheet presses directly onto the compatible sanding pad or hand-sanding block and remains securely positioned during use. When the abrasive becomes worn or a different grit is required, it can be peeled away and replaced quickly without clamps or separate adhesive.

115 x 228 mm format

The larger rectangular 115 x 228 mm abrasive format provides a generous sanding area for compatible Festool orbital sanders, making it particularly useful on larger flat surfaces where efficient coverage and consistent levelling are important.

Machine or hand sanding

In addition to compatible Festool RS-series orbital sanders, this abrasive is suitable for the HSK-A 115 x 226 hand-sanding block. This provides the flexibility to perform efficient powered sanding across larger areas and controlled manual sanding where additional feel, precision or accessibility is required.

Pro Tips

  • Use P80 after P40 or P60 when you need to reduce coarse sanding scratches while still removing material efficiently.
  • P80 can also make an excellent starting grit where the surface does not require extremely aggressive initial sanding.
  • After P80, progress to P100, P120 or another suitable finer grit instead of making unnecessarily large jumps in abrasive grade.
  • Align the abrasive carefully so the full 115 x 228 mm sheet is properly supported by the sanding pad or hand-sanding block.
  • Use effective dust extraction with compatible power sanders wherever possible to improve visibility, working conditions and abrasive performance.
  • Allow the abrasive grain and machine action to perform the cutting instead of applying excessive pressure.
  • When hand sanding with the HSK-A, use controlled, overlapping strokes and keep the block flat to maintain an even surface.
  • Remove loose sanding dust before progressing to a finer grit so coarse particles cannot contaminate the next sanding stage.

How to Use

  • Switch off the power sander and disconnect it from its power supply before fitting the abrasive sheet.
  • Inspect the sanding pad or hand-sanding block and ensure the StickFix surface is clean and in good condition.
  • Select one STF 115x228 P80 Granat abrasive sheet from the pack.
  • Align the abrasive accurately with the compatible sanding pad or HSK-A hand-sanding block and press it firmly onto the StickFix surface.
  • When machine sanding, connect suitable dust extraction where applicable.
  • Place the sander or sanding block flat against the workpiece.
  • Sand using smooth, controlled and overlapping movements to achieve even material removal.
  • Apply moderate pressure and allow the P80 abrasive to perform the cutting rather than forcing it into the workpiece.
  • Inspect the surface regularly to confirm that scratches and surface irregularities are being removed evenly.
  • Once the P80 sanding stage is complete, remove residual sanding dust before progressing to an appropriate finer Granat abrasive.

Safety

Safety

  • Wear appropriate eye, hearing and respiratory protection according to the material and coating being sanded.
  • Use suitable dust extraction whenever possible when machine sanding, particularly when processing coatings, fillers, plastics, mineral materials or other dust-producing surfaces.
  • Before sanding existing paints or coatings, determine whether they may contain hazardous substances and follow the appropriate occupational safety requirements.
  • Do not sand asbestos-containing or similarly hazardous materials unless the work is performed by appropriately trained personnel using the required equipment and procedures.
  • Ensure the abrasive sheet is correctly aligned and securely attached to the sanding pad or hand-sanding block before use.
  • Replace torn, damaged or excessively worn abrasive sheets before continuing work.
  • Keep hands and loose clothing clear of the sanding surface while a powered sander is operating.
  • Follow all operating and safety instructions supplied with the Festool sander, dust extractor and material or coating system being processed.
