Pro Tips
- Set the cutting depth only slightly deeper than the material to reduce exposed blade, improve extraction and support a cleaner cut.
- Use the 42-tooth fine-cut blade for veneered panels and visible cross-cut edges, and the 28-tooth universal blade for faster general cutting.
- Place the guide rail on the retained side of the workpiece so that the splinterguard protects the finished edge.
- Use both FSZ 120 clamps when cutting narrow, smooth or valuable workpieces where rail movement could affect accuracy.
- Before making a critical cut, perform a test cut in an offcut of the same material to confirm the blade, speed and depth settings.
- Allow the saw to reach full selected speed before entering the workpiece, then maintain a smooth and consistent feed rate.
- Keep the guide rail and the saw's guide channels clean to preserve smooth movement and cutting accuracy.
- When changing blades, clean the arbor and flange surfaces before fitting the replacement blade to prevent run-out and uneven cutting.
- Connect a suitable Festool dust extractor whenever possible, particularly when processing MDF, chipboard or plasterboard.
How to Use
- Read the operating instructions and safety information completely before using the plunge-cut saw for the first time.
- Inspect the saw, cable, guide rail, clamps and selected blade. Do not use damaged, excessively worn or incorrectly specified components.
- Disconnect the plug it cable before installing or changing a saw blade. Use the FastFix system and confirm that the blade is fitted in the indicated direction.
- Select the 42-tooth WOOD FINE CUT blade for cleaner finish cuts or the 28-tooth WOOD UNIVERSAL blade for efficient general-purpose rip and cross cuts.
- Mark the required cutting line and position the FS 1400/2 guide rail with its splinterguard edge directly against the retained side of the line.
- Slide the FSZ 120 clamps into the guide rail's lower channel and tighten them securely without distorting the workpiece or rail.
- Adjust the saw's guide play so that it moves smoothly along the rail without sideways movement.
- Set the required cutting depth, allowing for the guide rail thickness, and select the appropriate bevel angle and speed for the material.
- Connect a compatible dust extractor to the CLEANTEC extraction connection and make sure the hose will not catch during the cut.
- Position the saw at the starting point, switch it on and allow the blade to reach the selected speed before plunging into the material.
- Guide the saw steadily along the rail without forcing it. Maintain control until the blade has completely cleared the workpiece.
- Release the trigger, allow the blade to stop fully and disconnect the power before making adjustments, clearing blockages or packing the tool away.
Safety
Safety
- Wear suitable eye, ear and dust protection whenever operating the plunge-cut saw.
- Read and follow all operating, blade and safety instructions before using the tool.
- Connect an appropriate dust extractor, especially when cutting MDF, chipboard, plasterboard or other materials that generate fine dust.
- Secure the workpiece and guide rail properly. Make sure the clamps do not obstruct the saw, blade or intended cutting path.
- Keep hands, cables, extraction hoses and loose clothing away from the blade and cutting line.
- Check beneath the workpiece before cutting to ensure that the blade cannot contact hidden cables, fasteners, supports or other objects.
- Use only correctly sized blades that are suitable for the material and approved for the saw's rotational speed.
- Disconnect the tool from the power supply before changing blades, adjusting components, clearing blockages or carrying out maintenance.
- Never use a cracked, damaged, blunt or incorrectly mounted saw blade.
- Allow the blade to reach the selected speed before entering the material, and do not force or twist the saw during the cut.
- Wait for the blade to stop completely before lifting the saw from the guide rail or setting it down.
- The guide wedge and quick-acting brake support safer operation but do not replace correct handling and safe working practices.
