Product description

Festool ZR-KA 65 Additional Roller for CONTURO KA 65 Edge Bander

At a Glance: Purpose-designed 65 mm additional pressure roller for the Festool CONTURO KA 65 edge bander. It expands the machine's capabilities when edging tight curves, narrow inner radii and 90° inside corners, while also providing an additional pressure point for difficult, thick or brittle veneered edges.

Make the Festool CONTURO KA 65 even more versatile with the Festool ZR-KA 65 additional roller. Designed specifically for challenging edging situations, this accessory provides a second pressure point that helps guide and press edge material securely against the workpiece while the adhesive bonds. It is especially useful when applying edging around tight curves and shaped components, narrow inner radii and 90° internal corners where the standard roller arrangement alone may not provide the ideal contact geometry. The additional roller also increases the effective bending radius of the edge material, making it particularly valuable when processing thicker or more brittle veneered edges that could otherwise crack or break when bent too sharply. Installation is quick and tool-free: the ZR-KA 65 simply pushes into the dedicated recess on the CONTURO and is held securely by ball catches. A robust rubberised 65 mm roller protects the edge surface, while its smooth-running bearing keeps resistance low during feeding. Because the roller is positioned laterally, the operator retains an excellent view of the workpiece and edging during application.

Extra pressure exactly where difficult edges need it

The ZR-KA 65 acts as an additional pressure roller alongside the CONTURO's normal edging system. By introducing another controlled contact point, it helps press freshly glued edging firmly against curved, shaped or awkward workpiece sections while also changing the path through which the edge material bends. This makes demanding edging work more controlled and expands the range of shapes that can be processed with the KA 65.

What is the ZR-KA 65?

The ZR-KA 65 is an additional pressure roller for the Festool CONTURO KA 65 edge bander. It supplements the machine's normal pressure system and is intended for situations where the workpiece geometry or edge material requires another controlled contact point.

Why use an additional pressure roller?

When an edge is applied to a straight panel, the normal CONTURO pressure system can keep the edging firmly against the workpiece. Tight curves, inner corners and shaped components present a different challenge because the edge must change direction while still being pressed securely into the adhesive. The additional roller provides another pressure point that helps maintain controlled contact in these demanding areas.

Designed for tight inner radii

The position and compact guidance of the additional roller allow it to follow much tighter internal curves than a conventional large pressure surface. This makes the accessory particularly useful for curved furniture components, shaped panels and other workpieces with concave edges.

Working with 90° inner corners

Internal right-angle corners can be challenging because the edging must be pressed firmly into the corner while remaining accurately positioned. The ZR-KA 65 provides the extra contact and pressure required to make these applications more manageable with the CONTURO.

Why increasing the bending radius matters

Some edge materials, particularly thick or brittle veneered edges, do not tolerate sharp bending well. Guiding the edging around the additional roller increases its bending radius, allowing the material to change direction more gradually and reducing the risk of cracking or breaking.

Rubberised to protect the edge

The roller is covered with a robust rubberised surface. This provides the grip and pressure needed during edge application while helping prevent the roller from damaging or marking the visible surface of the edging.

Smooth-running bearing

The roller runs on a low-resistance bearing so it follows the moving edge freely. This means the operator does not need to overcome unnecessary friction while guiding the CONTURO around the workpiece.

Tool-free installation

Festool designed the ZR-KA 65 for quick installation. The roller is pushed into the designated recess on the machine and retained by ball catches, allowing it to be fitted when required and removed again without a lengthy setup procedure or separate tools.

Clear view of the workpiece

The additional roller sits laterally rather than obstructing the operator's line of sight. This positioning helps maintain a clear view of the workpiece, edge material and bonding area while guiding the CONTURO through difficult shapes.

Pro Tips

  • Fit the ZR-KA 65 whenever a tight inside radius or unusual workpiece shape makes the normal pressure roller difficult to guide.
  • For thick or brittle veneer edging, use the additional roller to create a gentler bending path rather than forcing the material around a sharp radius.
  • Make sure the ball catches have engaged securely before beginning the edging operation.
  • Keep the rubberised roller surface clean so chips, dried adhesive or contamination cannot mark the finished edge.
  • Use smooth, continuous movement around curves rather than stopping repeatedly while the adhesive is active.
  • Take advantage of the roller's lateral position to watch the edge closely as it contacts the workpiece.
  • For unfamiliar shapes, practise the movement with the machine switched off before applying adhesive and edging.
  • Allow the smooth-running roller to turn freely; do not force or lock the roller while moving around a curve.
  • For particularly difficult workpieces, plan the direction of travel and machine position before beginning the bonding operation.

How to Use

  • Switch off the CONTURO KA 65 and allow the machine to reach a safe condition before fitting accessories.
  • Inspect the ZR-KA 65 roller and ensure the rubberised surface and mounting points are clean and undamaged.
  • Locate the dedicated accessory recess on the KA 65.
  • Push the additional roller into the recess without tools.
  • Confirm that the ball catches have engaged and that the roller is securely retained.
  • Rotate the roller by hand to confirm that it moves freely.
  • Prepare the edge material and CONTURO according to the normal KA 65 operating procedure.
  • Position the machine so the additional roller provides the required secondary pressure point against the edging.
  • When approaching a tight curve or inner radius, guide the edging progressively around the additional roller so the material follows a controlled bending path.
  • Maintain steady pressure against the workpiece while keeping the edging correctly positioned in the adhesive.
  • For brittle veneered edging, avoid forcing the material around an excessively sharp bend and allow the larger roller path to reduce stress in the edge.
  • Continue guiding the CONTURO smoothly around the shape while monitoring the bonding area.
  • After completing the work, inspect the bonded edge and clean adhesive residue from the roller if required.
  • Remove the ZR-KA 65 when no longer required by releasing it according to the Festool accessory procedure.

Safety

Safety

  • Switch off the CONTURO KA 65 before fitting, removing or inspecting the additional roller.
  • Make sure the accessory is fully inserted and securely retained by the ball catches before operation.
  • Do not use the roller if its mounting components, bearing or rubberised surface are damaged.
  • Keep fingers clear of the roller and edge material while the machine is feeding edging.
  • Take particular care when guiding the machine through tight internal curves and corners where hand clearance may be reduced.
  • Do not attempt to force brittle edge material around a radius tighter than the material can safely tolerate.
  • Remove hardened adhesive or debris from the roller before use so the finished edging cannot be damaged.
  • Follow all operating and safety instructions supplied with the Festool CONTURO KA 65 and the adhesive being used.
