Product description

Tork Craft Drill Nut Riveter M4 M5 M6 M8 M10 M12 5/16' Hex Shank

At a Glance: Industrial drill-powered nut riveter with a 5/16' hex shank, six interchangeable M4 to M12 mandrels and nose pieces, and riveting capability in aluminium, steel and stainless steel.

Turn a suitable power drill into a remarkably versatile nut-riveting tool with the Tork Craft TCRIV002HD Drill Nut Riveter. Designed for installing threaded rivet nuts where a strong, reusable internal thread is required, this industrial attachment covers six popular metric sizes: M4, M5, M6, M8, M10 and M12. The 5/16' hex shank fits into a standard drill chuck, making it easy to add nut-riveting capability to an existing tool collection without requiring a dedicated powered riveter. With the correct mandrel and nose piece fitted, the tool can install compatible aluminium, steel and stainless-steel nut rivets in a wide variety of fabrication, repair, assembly and installation applications. Its anodised aluminium body, knurled gripping surfaces and separate side handle provide a solid, controlled setup, while the complete kit is supplied with the interchangeable tooling, two useful wrenches and a protective BMC carrying case.

One attachment, six useful rivet nut sizes

The TCRIV002HD gives workshops, installers, fabricators and serious DIY users the flexibility to work with M4, M5, M6, M8, M10 and M12 nut rivets using one drill-powered system. Simply install the matching mandrel and nose piece for the rivet nut being used. A drill with an inbuilt clutch mechanism is recommended for controlled riveting and to help prevent over-riveting or damage to the mandrel.

Extra Info

Extra Information

  • Always use a mandrel and nose piece of the same size. For example, an M8 mandrel must be used with the M8 nose piece.
  • The recommended operating speed is below 20 RPM. Use the drill at slow speed for better control of the riveting process.
  • A drill with an inbuilt clutch mechanism should be used to help prevent over-riveting, thread stripping and mandrel damage.
  • Do not use an impact driver. Impact operation can damage the mandrel and riveting mechanism.
  • Ensure that the pre-drilled mounting hole is clean and free from burrs before inserting the rivet nut.
  • Maintain consistent pressure during installation to help produce a uniform rivet nut setting.
  • If the mandrel becomes stuck, check that the nose piece and front bushing are tight and that the correct nose piece is being used for the rivet nut.
  • If rivet nut threads begin stripping, reduce the driving torque and inspect the mandrel threads for damage before continuing.
  • Keep the drill and riveter correctly aligned while riveting and while releasing the mandrel from the installed nut.
  • Wipe the tool clean after use, check regularly that all parts remain tight and inspect the internal mechanism periodically for lubrication requirements.

Pro Tips

  • Match all three components: Check the rivet nut, mandrel and nose piece before starting. They must all correspond to the same thread size.
  • Let the clutch protect the tooling: Start with a controlled clutch setting rather than maximum drill torque. Excessive torque can strip the rivet nut threads or damage the mandrel.
  • Keep the tool square: Maintain the drill and riveter in alignment with the rivet nut during setting and release. Side loading can twist or damage the mandrel.
  • Prepare the hole properly: A clean, correctly sized and burr-free hole helps the rivet nut seat evenly against the workpiece.
  • Hold both handles firmly: Keep one hand on the drill and the other on the riveter's side handle to control reaction torque.
  • Never rush the setting process: The riveter is designed to operate at less than 20 RPM. Slow, controlled operation gives much better feedback than high drill speed.
  • Inspect the mandrel regularly: If its threads become damaged or distorted, replace the mandrel before installing another rivet nut.

How to Use

  • Switch the drill off before installing the riveter. Insert the 5/16' hex shank into the drill chuck and tighten it securely.
  • Select the mandrel and nose piece that match the size of the rivet nut being installed. The mandrel and nose piece must always be the same size.
  • Place the riveter handle in the lock position. Remove the front bushing, install the selected mandrel and tighten it using the 12 mm wrench.
  • Refit and tighten the front bushing. Install the matching nose piece and tighten it using the 17 mm wrench.
  • Attach the rivet nut to the mandrel. Set the drill to reverse, move the handle to the lock position and operate the drill slowly until the rivet nut is fully engaged on the mandrel.
  • Set the drill to forward and move the handle to the release position. Operate the drill until the mandrel is completely positioned within the front bushing and the clearance between the rivet nut and nose piece has been removed.
  • Clamp the workpiece securely. Insert the rivet nut into the clean, pre-drilled hole, set the drill to forward and lock the side handle.
  • Hold the drill and side handle firmly and engage the trigger slowly. Keep the operating speed below 20 RPM and do not over-tighten the rivet nut.
  • After the rivet nut has been set, place the drill in reverse and lock the handle. Operate the drill to separate the installed rivet nut from the nose piece.
  • Release the handle while remaining in reverse and operate the drill to unscrew and release the mandrel completely from the installed rivet nut.

Safety

Safety

  • Always read and follow the operating and safety instructions supplied with both the riveter and the driving drill before use.
  • Wear appropriate eye protection and personal protective equipment for the work being performed.
  • Ensure the drill is switched off before installing or removing the nut riveter or changing a mandrel and nose piece.
  • Do not use an impact driver. Use a suitable drill with an inbuilt clutch mechanism.
  • Clamp the workpiece securely before riveting. An unsecured workpiece may rotate with the driving tool.
  • Hold the side handle firmly with one hand and the drill with the other to control driving torque.
  • Operate the riveter slowly and keep the recommended speed below 20 RPM.
  • Do not over-rivet or apply excessive driving torque, as this can strip rivet nut threads or damage the mandrel.
  • Always ensure the nose piece and mandrel are correctly matched to the rivet nut size.
  • Remove adjustment wrenches and keys before operating the drill and riveter.
  • Keep loose clothing, jewellery and long hair away from rotating parts.
  • Maintain secure footing and good balance while operating the tool.
  • The riveter may become hot after use and some components may have sharp edges. Allow the tool to cool and handle accessories carefully.
  • Be careful when disassembling the riveter for mandrel changes or maintenance because pre-loaded springs are present inside the mechanism.
  • Before each use, check that the nose piece, front bushing, lock ring, mandrel and other components are correctly fitted and securely tightened.
